One of the best ways to improve taking better pictures and becoming a better photographer is through projects.
You can create a self-imposed projects and then stay within the boundaries of that project criteria.
For our very first project we decided to do a theme called Edges and Transitions.
This started off us going to a Florida preserve. We had a list of ideas that we wanted to do as a theme on but none of them really stood out.
We wanted to do something different than what we already had written down.
None of us could really come up with any ideas in the moment. So I quickly jumped over to X (Twitter) and asked Grok to provide 10 different ideas for a photography theme in nature on a trail preserve in Florida. We asked for open-ended and different themes.
Surprisingly, Grok came up with some pretty good ideas.
The one that stood out the most to us was Edges and Transitions.
This is what Grok wrote as a description for this specific theme that we decided to explore:
"Document where habitats meet, forest to wetland borders, mangrove fringes, or trail edge where wildflowers bloom. Capture contrasting colors, textures and dryt pine needles against wet ferns or the hazy boundary between land and water at dawn."
We would take all the shots we wanted but our results would have to be condensed to only 3 final photos. Stacey ended up with 4.
And we could edit them any way we wanted using Lightroom Classic or Photoshop.
Here are our results.
Stacey focused on the edges and transition of nature: leaves, branches, color.
